...Your three months into the trip and decided that the next stop will be a little more off the beaten track, you know, turn right at the black stump and head for those special rock paintings that are dated to over 500 years old and yes it is worth the journey.

...So you grab your emergency kit, (sitting handily between the front seats) help your partner out and move off far enough to be out of harms way then watch your vehicle go up in flames and as the fuel tank bursts the fire engulfs your trailer also setting fire to the spinifex grass completing the conflagration.

...•	It is important that the information that you have lodged with the authorities describes the type of radio you have and the channel you will be using and at what times - possibly listen 10 minutes and transmit 5 minutes on either side of the hour and half hour, this will save the batteries and allow you to concentrate on survival for the rest of the time.

•	Even if you have an EPIRB, rescue could be 24 – 48 hours away and with a radio up to several days so get setup for at least a couple of nights in the bush

...If the vehicle is on unmade and slippery tracks these brakes will only work with weight or inertia being applied to rear of vehicle.

...Also if you are in a situation where you are descending in low range in a low gear you can apply trailer braking manually as and when required to take the load off the vehicle.

...If you choose electric brakes, you will also need to install a brake controller in your vehicle.

...Both performed beautifully and I was able to adjust the braking strength such that I could feel the trailer pulling on the car when braking which kept everything nicely in control, especially on long downhill runs.

Black Opal Tours will pick you up and take you on a great tour of the town and the mines and you'll even get a chance to do some "noodling" and find your own gems (watch out for the potch though!). Morning tea is thrown in as well as the opportunity to buy some great opal.

This photo is of Savanna 'noodling' for opals on a mullock heap with tour guide "Carol".

...While much of the once logged areas are slowly regenerating, it is possible to gain access to one of the original untouched old growth areas via Cooper Creek Wilderness. Neil and Prue Hewett own and manage a 160 acre piece of the Daintree and for a small fee take visitors on guided interpretive walks to discover the magic of this ancient forest.

...By night the forest comes alive and we managed to find and film many small creatures including green tree frogs, a chameleon, stick insects, native rats, giant crickets, a Boyds Forest Dragon and sleeping birds.

...Neil is a virtual walking encyclopedia having spent the past 16 years exploring the rain-forest by day and night and his passion for the Daintree was evident.

While we didn't get to experience it on our trip, the helicopter is also a boat and routinely lands on the water so divers can literally dive straight in!

...I wanted to get out and see the site and Ron flew us right over the wreck site as well as the other surrounding islands where most of the Batavias passengers that survived the wreck were murdered by mutinous members of the crew.

...Since Prestige Helicopters began operating services to and from the islands, many people are chosing to take the air option rather than the boat as the water between the islands and the mainland is renowned for being very rough and hard going for inexperienced land lubbers.

Flying out over the islands was certainly an experience we will never forget and we are looking forward to getting back up this way again so we can spend more time exploring The Abrolhos Islands.

With so many holiday parks in this area to choose from, we were looking for one that stood out by offering something special to their guests.

...The mission of the resort is to integrate their facilities into the environment as much as possible and they have succeeded in their goal with the facilities set amongst 110 acres of native bush land beside the sea.

...Well, I can't argue with that as we stayed there nearly a week and only ventured out a couple of times for supplies and to check out Coffs Harbour.

...So in summary, if you are looking for a destination with just about everything you need on site and you want to be close to nature without actually bush camping, then I would certainly recommend Darlington Beach Resort.
