OUR TRIP
We plan to be travelling for about 3 months - all of May, June & July 09. The main destination for us is the remote regions of WA - we want to spend as much time as we can in the beautiful Kimberly's. The journey will go from Sydney across the Nullabor into southern Western Australia. We'll track up the coast of WA and plan to reach Broome late May, resting there for a week or so with Craig's parents. Then most of June will be spent exploring the Kimberlys. From there we move across into Northern Territory, probably via Darwin & then probably track back into NSW through outback QLD - but who knows ? We've no fixed plans, no concrete agenda, no set time frame - and that's just the way we like it ! We're leaving all of that behind in Sydney and chasing freedom !!
WHAT WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE
For us, this is a chance to show our 3 beautiful children a life and a landscape different to anything that they have ever experienced before. We want them to see and experience the vastness of Australia, to appreciate the massive distances & huge, empty spaces that lie in the centre of this country. We want them to sleep under a blanket of stars in the outback, brighter than anything they would ever have seen before, to see the incredible beauty of the Kimberly's and the red dust only to be found in the outback. They will meet a huge range of diverse people, other travellers & local characters in the small country towns. We hope that they will stop to imagine what life is like for people who choose to make their homes in places that we couldn't begin to imagine living. They will question what makes them love that life and understand the ties that bind them into their homes & communities just as strongly as we have to ours.
Coming from a home where both Mum & Dad run a business & they see us madly rushing from one thing to the next - we hope they will see a different side to us too ! We wonder how long it will take before we shake off our city persona's - how long before I don't bother to put on a watch or schedule out every hour of our day - or to see their Dad without a mobile phone carried everywhere he goes. Imagine it !!
This is also an opportunity for us to bond even closer as a family, we know that spending all this time so closely together will bring it's own challenges.... !! but in the end, we know that this will be an adventure that we will each look back on in years to come, and we will remember it as a very special time in our family where some incredible memories will be made.
Thank you for visiting our website which we have set up for our many family & friends to follow along with our journey. Over the next 3 months we want to share our advertures with you & hope that you will keep in touch with us via our Blog.
And so... off we go !!!
