Stop 1 - New Norcia

Stop 1
Sunday, 1 June 2008
New Norcia, WA
1 Night

Well we are on the road AGAIN. After a fun filled 17 months in the sunny city of Perth we are heading back east, via the west coast and the north and another bit north and east. We are due to get to Canberra in September 2008.

We pulled out of Liz and Brian's drive way at 2pm on Sunday 1st June, 2008. We were amazed that we achieved that. The last week of our time in Perth was very full. Cleaning our rental property until it sparkled, finishing off some things for the children, like dentists, hairdressing, returning things to schools, libraries and finalising bills, etc. The highlights of those last moments in Perth was catching up with new and old friends, having some laughs and spending some time with family. A great finish to a great start!

We didn't get very far out of Perth... only one and a half hours north. No rain though. We pulled into the overnight free camp site at 4pm and got the camper ready and dinner on by 5pm. We celebrated our non rain soaked first camp, with a beer for the adults and a hot chocolate for the kids at the New Norcia Guest Hotel. That first burst of bliss was soon shattered after we crawled into bed. We forgot that New Norcia is still a working monastery and that the monks probably don't have flash watches to get them up for various prayers and work commitments- no they have a bloody big clock in a tower that strikes each quarter hour and then lets loose every hour with very loud gonging!

We were happy when the sun came out and we could buy some fresh bread and get out of there!
