Godfreys Childs Play
Godfrey girls and dad will take 12 months to explore Oz meeting up with friends and family along the way.
Travelling in a Trak Shak towed buy their 80 Series Land-cruiser.
Well it's finally happened after dreaming and talking about the big trip we (Jason,Tammy & kids ) decided a little over 9months ago that now was the right time in our lives to pack up the house and say good bye to a great group of friends and family for a 12month adventure around our awesome country. How easy it all seemed laying in bed and dreaming but in the months that followed we soon found out that it was going to be far from easy.
Our first step was to tell family and friends about our plans which to my surprise was met with some negativity but once the word was out it no longer remained a dream. we set the wheels in motion with selling our old camper setup which comprised of a petrol 80series LC (stock) and a cavalier camper trailer 9ft.
Next we purchased another 80series LC but turbo diesel then by chance we found our dream camper. A stock trak shak. With a few modifications and additions. ie a new set of shoes and a electrical system we where ready. That was easy!!!!!!
Our set up has taken a lot of time and money but we have to rely on it for the trip so we installed quality. A heap of the work on our truck had already been done by Tammy's brother and TJM, we are carrying
- Hayman-Reece electric brakes
- snatch strap and rated shackles
- long handled shovel
- axe
- hi-lift jack
- hi-lift jack kit (to use jack as a hand winch)
- head rest DVD players (for sanity on longer trips!!)
- TJM ally bullbar (with ox hydraulic winch)
- hella rallye spotties (long and wide)
- Safari snorkel
- Milford cargo barrier
- Prorack roof rack with boat rollers
- GME UHF radio
- rancho adjustable shocks(50mm lift)
- cooper st tyres
- 2x Waeco CF-70 fridge
- engle 29ltr freezer
- big red mkll air compressor
- 2xExtra spare tyres
- Spare parts (belts and fuses) and tools
- comprehensive first aid kit
- 30ltr water bladder in side wall of car
- 4 x 20 litre water containers
- 3 x 20 litre plastic Jerry cans for diesel
we decided not to sell our house so we set out to find some where to put our furniture as we needed to rent our house out. After weeks of phone calls and plenty of pencil sharpening we received a call from a friend telling us of a 20ft shipping container that might be for sale. Buy the next week we had our storage sorted out what a relief we had no idea how expensive rental storage could be thanks to the generosity of our good friends we put our container in the back of there block. Storage sorted we set out to paint the house and find a suitable tenant.
We lived in the shed while we renovated our house to make it suitable and attractive for rent in the last 4 weeks we found people we know who where looking for a place and it all started to fall together. On the 11/12/10 we moved into the Whyalla caravan park while Jason finished of some outstanding electrical jobs around town and the kids finished school for the year the trip still didn't feel like it had started yet but we where that close we could smell the fresh eyre (air) so here we are in Adelaide for Christmas before we head into the south east of S.A to start the big lap.
Unfortunately the funds we have saved wont allow us the have the full 12mth off work but Tammy has picked up some work in Keith as a swimming instructor for vacation swim school and Jason is hoping to pick up some electrical work along the way.
We will be in Kieth starting our trip on the 2nd of January.
Well thanks for reading about the start of our trip and check out our blog and pics for future locations.
