Home Again 13th December 2010
Thu, Dec 16 2010 09:46
Well I am not sure how I feel about being home. It is great to see everyone, including the dog, but l am not sick of camping and would love to be still out there somewhere. As we entered Victoria the rain did not stop, but we still enjoyed camping in the Glenelg River NP and a small but very nice free camp just out of Portland called Mt Clay. The showers eased just enough for us to see all the sights
South Australia nearly done 7th Dec 2010

Our crossing of the Nullarbor went very easily, probably due to travelling with the Lang family. When we stopped for lunch and dinner all the kids ran crazy, expelling that extra energy. One game lasted I think for two days and it included all seven children playing together. Whenever they were out of the car the game took off from where it ended last stop. On the road we had CBs to talk to each other

We have been enjoying the coast line which is very similar to our most southern tip in Victoria, Wilson Promontory. Lots of Granite rocks, on the coast and forming islands just out of reach; beautiful white sand and blue as blue water. The rivers are a dark brown because of the tannin and the beaches even squeaked when you walked on them. It is such a wild coast line with heaps of sea mist in the air

Forgot to mention that I got a new very comfy chair in Perth, for I was very sick of my old one. Now I will sit up longer in the evening instead of wanting to go to bed because that is the only place that use to be comfy. It only just fits In the camper for we are that tight for space. Simon couldn’t bare throw the other one away, so he managed to find another place to store stuff; under the
A west coast playground tour 12th November 2010

Those flies were truly a lot worse anywhere inland as we found out. Taking our time going south we read about a hidden secret of WA. It was a 4wd track into Stockyard Gully, which are some underground caves made by a river. They uses to drive the cattle into these caves at night as a holding pen and a much needed cool break for the men when they were driving cattle up the coast slightly inland. There

Well the dolphin feeding at Monkey Mia was over rated, the girls were quite disappointed because they were not picked to feed them and there was a big build up of talking prior. Having seen dolphins so close at Somers the kids were not that impressed. Elly was just itching to see the visitors centre, for ‘they have movies and things to touch’. Zoe found a headless sea snake near camp

Well we stayed for quite a while at Cape Range NP, it was a magical place. We snorkeled at Turquoise Bay another two times and also enjoyed sandy bay. The land around was just so barren with hardly any vegetation over a metre, and when the wind picked up there was nowhere to hide. Did I mention what WA stands for , Windy Always, and yes we got it. Out of nine nights we had six really windy ones and

We spent one night in Tom Price and went on a Rio Tinto mine tour which was a great trip. It is an Iron Ore mine and we all got a great understanding of the processes involved in the mining. Because we had been to Port headland already the kids understood that it was shipped overseas and made into metal and now they saw the mining end of it. Zoe was the most excited about the mine tour before we
On the road again! 4th October 2010
Tue, Oct 5 2010 12:00
It felt sad for me saying goodbye to my folks, but then was snapped out it and called to those motherly duties. It was nice to be back in our family unit again, and the kids were excellent in the car. Colouring and doing activities nicely for they had not done them for a while. . It has only been four days since we left Broome and we have seen so many things and travelled a fair distance. We decided
The best contrast of colours in Australia 29th September 2010
Wed, Sep 29 2010 01:09
We travelled up the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome and were amazed by the beautiful colours of the country. The deep red dirt, white sand and stunning blue water, all on one beach. The wind certainly was blowing for us, with an average of around 30 -35 Knots. That would have been ok if we had our windsurfer and not been camped in a tent on the coast. We were hoping the wind would ease at night
Nice to smell the salt air! 14th September 2010
Tue, Sep 14 2010 09:48
We are still moving, no more car troubles, no flat tyres and we are at the other end of the Gibb, in Broome. Leaving Kununurra was exciting, to be on the road again and everything back in order and in its place. Our first stop was Emma Gorge in El Questro Station (I was excited). We arrived Midday and was then hesitant to walk in the heat of the day, but halfway up the steep sided gorge it
leaving at last 4th September 2010

Finally we are off this morning to El Questro, after 17 nights here. We has bit of a celebration for the car coming back last night, and it didn’t break the bank. Only one ball joint needed to be replaced, and there was a little tear in the cover which may have been the cause for it wearing out if salt water got in at any time. We have got the spare with us for the other side if we need
Still waiting 31 August 2010
Tue, Aug 31 2010 09:43
Well we feel like locals in Kununurra now for we have been here for two weeks. The new bushes they ordered for the car and put in did not fix the groaning noise, so we ordered two new ball joints which we hope will do the trick. They will come in tomorrow and maybe we will be on the road Thursday afternoon, if all goes well. We have certainly had our fair share of ups and downs as a family lately.
Stuck in Kununurra 22 August 2010
Sun, Aug 22 2010 10:30
That moan from the front suspension that has come and gone for the whole trip has now got much worse that we decided, when we were just west of Katherine we would make a fast break to Kununurra to get it looked at. Not sure what the outcome is yet but we are waiting for parts to come and we do have a hire car thanks to RACV total care. Back to where we left off the last Blog in Darwin, we had to
'The heat is on!'
Sat, Aug 7 2010 09:26
I am sitting next to the water park in Darwin, with the kids running around and loving the water slides and all the things they have created with water – for free. How good is that. It has been a while since our last update and i have not been getting much time to myself to do things like writing a blog. We are surprised at the lack of time we do have left in the day. We loved Mataranka and

We said goodbye to my Dad and Toby at Yulara and they went south while we went north back to Alice Springs. We picked up more supplies and then headed to the East MacDonnell Ranges. The kids took a couple of days to get back into the swing of just our family again, and we stayed three nights in Trephina Gorge which was good for all of us. It was out East, much less touristy, bush camping and just
Camel Cup, Kings canyon and more 14th July
Thu, Jul 15 2010 07:53
We got into Alice last Friday and were very disappointed when the Big 4 caravan parks jumping pillow had water damage from all the rain and the kids were not able to use it. We haven’t stayed in a park with one before and this was a special treat (meant to be). We went to the camel cup the next day which was a laugh. The first race one of the camels just sat down about 5m from the finish line
What Mud ?.... (Ending up not where we planned) 7th July
Sun, Jul 11 2010 09:59
Well, we put our cars and trailers through some mud in the last two days. We thought we would take a different route to Alice Springs so from Coober Pedy, going slightly east to Mt Dare. We didn’t quite make it all the way to Mt Dare the first day due to a road closure. An extra 100km on dirt to travel. We camped by a billabong at the old Eringa Station just before Mt Dare. The next day we had a
Hitch Hiker
Sun, Jul 11 2010 09:58
We picked up an unwanted hitch hiker we think in Coober Pedy. Simon saw some tiny mouse droppings on the dash, and didn’t believe them to be and brushed them off as dirt, but when I pulled out the open packet of bullets to give some to Zoe, our little friend had taken a licking to the chocolate on the outside. That night we had to box all the food in the car and found he had also snacked
