Day 80 - Charleville to Bourke
Wed, Sep 15 2010 09:39
Not wanting to spend too long in the lower parts of QLD (because we can get back there relatively easily) we motored onto Bourke today, an easy 454kms down the Mitchell Hyw. Great devonshire tea at Wyandra and a really bazaar experience at Barringun. Thought we'd pick up something at Barringun for lunch so we waited patiently until we got there. There's only two places in Barringun, the pub and
Day 79 - Winton to Charleville
Wed, Sep 15 2010 09:20
We set off this morning knowing that we'd have a long day in front of us but not thinking we'd be on the road for 9.5 hours. 700kms with a few stops for food and watering the horses, what a big day. Still don't really know why we did it..... It was certainly the day for wildlife though, kangaroos, pigs, eagles, a turtle, cattle, lizards. Sore bums all-round.. pies, chips and lollies got us through.
Day 78 - Winton and the Dinosaurs
Wed, Sep 15 2010 09:09

It was bloody hot overnight anyway so we were awake early as the sun rose. 31 deg's at 8am today. So for $250 you'd expect a nice form of transport and as morning tea was included, a cuppa tea and scones or something similar. Around the corner
Day 77 - Mt Isa to Winton
Wed, Sep 15 2010 08:21
We were determined to see the dinosaur attractions that we missed out on at our visit to this part of the country so we headed for Winton for another try. Heading on the road through Cloncurry and McKinlay was a pretty easy drive, but very pitchy with the car constantly wanting to follow the tracks left by the heavy mine trucks. I guess you've all heard of a movie called "Crocodile Dundee"....

Over the border today into QLD as we head for Mt Isa for a few days. A pretty uneventful day's drive of 450kms, we came into Mt Isa with the fuel light on for the last 10kms. A bit of a worry when you don't know the car that well to know when it stops!! As it turns out we had plenty of fuel, she only took 57 litres in the 70ltr tank. It's great to have normal fuel prices again, 128.9CPL.We

We're off to the Nouralangie Area today to have a look through the Anbangbang Gallery of rock art and look at the billabong. It's all a short drive from our camp, back towards Jabiru about 20kms, and not far off the main road. Not much sleep for anyone. The locals are all talking about this being October weather and the start to an early "build up" to the wet season which they also say is coming early
Day 67 - Darwin to Kakadu (Cooinda)
Sat, Sep 4 2010 11:18
Tried a new yellow light outside last night and it kept the bug's away heaps more than the normal white light, got to be happy with that purchase.Woke up to another great day to pack up and Jason got a ride on a trail bike around the camp grounds with the guys camped behind us. It got pretty hot early, 29 deg at 9am, with the humidity getting up there too. Off to the showers after pack up to cool
Day 66 - Darwin Water Park
Wed, Sep 1 2010 05:55
We'd heard along the way that there was a free water park not too far from our camp so we went to investigate this morning. Ended up staying all day....What a great place, three big water slides, a huge pool, a play area with water coming out of everywhere and plenty of shaded seating and grass. Lunch from the local pie shop and back to camp at about 3pm for happy hours (many of them - Sandy's
Day 65 - Darwin - Jumping Crocodiles!
Wed, Sep 1 2010 05:46
It was a pretty lazy morning as we'd booked into the 3pm jumping crocodile tour on the Adelaide River Queen. It gave us a chance to catch up a bit, tidy our camp and swim in the pools. We left the camp at about 1pm and headed to the "View to the Wetlands" visitors centre on the way. It was nice to step into the air conditioned building after the short walk from the carpark as it was getting

The wave pool cost us $12 for the family.Everyone was hungry (strange thing that ... the girls are always bloody hungry!!!) so
Day 63 - Darwin and more Crocodiles!!
Wed, Sep 1 2010 05:04

Off to the Crocodylus Park today to see the crocs and farm animals. A great place to visit and spend some time. Sandy fed a 5.5 mtr croc in the breading pens and we saw many others fed. The place is an active croc farm so they breed and fatten up crocs for their meat and skins as well as research their habits and dietary needs. Jason was very excited to see an Osterich as he'd been calling all
Day 61 - Katherine to Darwin (Howard Springs)
Wed, Sep 1 2010 04:26
After a hot and very still night, we woke to another beautiful day for breakfast in the morning sun. 26 deg's at 8:20am and not a cloud in the sky. I can see why all these old farts head north in the winter to escape the cold. Our destination, Howard Springs, is about 30kms south of Darwin so its a pretty easy drive today. We headed for the township of Adelaide River for lunch where we had lunch
