Deciding what to take and, just as importantly, what NOT to take can be a struggle in the preparation for any road trip.

We've all seen the way that the law is clamping down on overweight rigs these days so travelling light and keeping within the allowable weight for your vehicle and van/trailer is more important than ever.

To help make it a little easier for you, I've created this simple spreadsheet which is both a packing list AND a total weight calculator.

I've included over 500 items on the list to get you started.

And you can add the approximate weight of each item that you plan to take to get a running total of your overall rig weight.

Of course you won't need all 500+ items on the list so you can delete any you don't want and add your own as well.

Look at this spreadsheet as a starting point that you can customise for your own trip plans.

1. An Excel spreadsheet with built in cost and weight calculator. Add and delete items to the list until it is your own ultimate packing list. Note - The spreadsheet should open in virtually any spreadsheet program.
2. A PDF file made from the spreadsheet which you can print out and use if you don't have Excel or another spreadsheet program.
